UPCOMING exhibition
Oliver Altermatt - FROM 29 November to March 2026
Oliver Altermatt is a fine art photographer based on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. His practice is shaped by a deep connection to place and an ongoing exploration of the interplay between land, sea, and light. Through his lens, the familiar coastlines and vineyards of the Peninsula are transformed into studies of rhythm, energy, and atmosphere.
Oliver’s acclaimed series include Gunnamatta, a powerful body of work that captures the raw force and sublime beauty of waves at Gunnamatta Beach; Vineyards, a semi‑abstract aerial study of seasonal change and repetition across the Peninsula’s vineyard landscapes; and Canvas, a contemplative series that explores softer, painterly aspects of coastal and rural environments.
In addition to his contemporary photographic work, Oliver has embraced one of photography’s earliest techniques: the wet plate collodion process. This 19th‑century method, which produces unique tintypes on metal plates, requires both patience and craftsmanship. His growing reputation in this field has made him one of the few photographers in the region to offer authentic wet plate portraits.
During the summer months (November through February/March), Oliver’s work will be exhibited at Tallarida Vineyard & Winery, Boneo. Large-scale prints from his Gunnamatta, Vineyards, and Canvas series will be displayed on the winery’s main wall, immersing visitors in the diverse beauty of the Mornington Peninsula.
In addition to the exhibition, Oliver will set up a fully operational wet plate studio inside the winery. Visitors will have a rare opportunity to experience the slow, handcrafted process of 19th‑century photography and sit for a one-of-a-kind tintype portrait made on site.
Through both his modern and historical approaches to image-making, Oliver Altermatt continues to expand the ways in which photography can capture not just a place, but a feeling.
CURRENT exhibition
jackie green: COASTAL/ICONIC - UNTIL November
Jackie Green is a contemporary abstract artist. With a background in freehand sign writing and custom made signage, Jackie brings her eclectic fusion of typography and iconography into the free-flowing world of abstract expressionism. She creates via two operandi - URBAN RHYTHM and COASTAL CONTEMPLATION. Her Urban-inspired works layer pastels, neon, lettering and symbols in vibrant creations depicting the intoxicating energy of a modern urban buzz. On the flip side, her Coastal Contemplation direction draws inspiration from the raw beauty of nature captured in muted natural tones and organic elements carefully considered to evoke a sense of seaside serenity.
Whichever way you see it, all work is lovingly created to canvas good vibes only.
Past exhibitions
hannah lewis: flora
Saturday 16 August to 28 February
Her first solo show, Hannah Lewis’ Flora speaks of the plants of the Mornington Peninsula where she lives. The exhibition is also a reflection on places she has spent significant time immersing herself in, which has recently included three significant art residencies; Police Point on the Mornington Peninsula in 2022, FLOAT AIR on Lake Tyers in 2023 and, most recently, Oatlands in Tasmania in 2024.
All have taken Hannah to different landscapes and inspired her to broaden her lens and immerse herself in creating a sense of place away from the familiar. The 'story of place' is an important component of Hannah's work.
In scientific terms 'flora' are the plants of a particular region or habitat, generally the naturally occurring or indigenous plants. Flora means 'flower' in Latin. In Roman mythology, Flora was the fertility Goddess of spring and flowering plants. She was known to bring beauty and new life to the world, symbolising the blooming of flowers and the renewal of nature. The use of clothing is also used as a metaphor for nature’s embrace.
Di CRAWFORD: From 17 AUGUST, 2024
Di’s first exhibition in five years, My Peninsula Experience is a personal reflection and dedication to the natural environment of the Mornington Peninsula, particularly the birds, wildlife and fauna. Di is influenced by how magic and fragile the environment is. The exhibition celebrates how resilient the environment has been up to date, but also seeks to motivate a discussion around the long-term prospects of life in the green wedge. Di hopes that through the exhibition, visitors can be inspired by the beauty and wonder of nature, and reflect on the many different ways of interpreting its beauty.

MARK STUART: 11 MAY TO 11 JUNE
Mark Stuart is an Australian figurative sculptor and abstract painter.
These are a series of seascapes and landscapes that he began after returning to Australia after 35 years living in France and Italy. Mark’s misophonia has led him to look at his own reaction to the world with more intention. His paintings are a layered response to stillness and movement, apathy and energy, sound and silence. Light is disrupted and the possibility of chance becomes a driving force. His sculpture embraces the European sensibility of marble. His pieces are made mostly by hand, as a rejection against the quasi-industrial processes of sculpting. His art is about curiosity for the mysteries of the world and a certain resistance to social expectations.
Mark grew up in Beaumaris and moved to Sydney in 1978 determined to be a sculptor. He became associated with the leading Sydney artists of the time, using Brett Whiteley’s studio in Waverton for a year and purchasing Joel Ellenberg’s sculpting tools. In 1983, on the advice of Ellenberg, Stuart moved to Carrara, Italy, to carve monumental sculptures by hand. Carrara was the centre of marble sculpture in Europe and laid the foundation for acquiring timeless techniques and a European sensibility towards the beauty of marble.
Mark lived in France for thirty years and has exhibited widely in France, Italy, America and the United Kingdom. His work is in numerous important private collections, and he was a finalist in the 1992 Wynne Prize. He returned to live in Australia in 2014.
